The scene taken from an Ottoman miniature drawn around mid-16th century, shows the newly recruited boys brought to the capital, Istanbul and waiting for registration. The boys are depicted in red outfit with a bag on their shoulders to carry their personal belongings. The spot is the front of the Gate of the General Commander, the Agha’s Palace/Office. The Gate still survives behind the Suleimaniye Mosque today.
